There are many forces fighting for the precious real estate in your mind. The more influence one has on the way you think, the more they can control your outcomes. People influence your mind by painting a picture of an outcome you desire, by presenting a perspective that may compromise your beliefs to get that appealing result.
Be mindful of what you allow into your mind. It all starts with a thought or a suggestion. The serpent created the thought in Eve’s mind by suggesting that she could be as powerful as God, which made her eat the apple. He didn’t say – “eat this apple.” He invaded her mind by suggesting something and created a picture that she would desire. And with that, he was able to influence her actions - she ate the apple.
Who are you allowing to get into your mind? Who is currently programming you?
You are the sum total of what you allow to condition the way you think. Your friends, family, coworkers, music, television, education, governmental systems, experiences, etc. have all already contributed to how you think.
The consistent and dominant messaging (both negative and positive) we allow to be deposited into our minds increases our likelihood of believing it. And if we believe it, we act accordingly. We need to decide to only allow positive messages that build us up, that’s wrapped in love and that speaks to our true nature to reside in our minds. And to avoid degrading, limiting and negative communication that triggers unsolicited destructive emotions (like fear or worry) that are bound by hate.
We need to take control of what we let in our mind. “Because as a man thinketh so is he”. If the people and things that surround us control what we think, they also control what we say and do. They dominate our perspectives and essentially rule our world.
So the question is, are people speaking life or death into you? Are they speaking love or hate?
Seriously. Think about the 5 people you talk to the most. Which side of the equation are they on? How are they impacting your thoughts?
The fact is, if you aren’t the main one programming yourself, someone else is. Is it the media? Your playlist? Your friends? Colleagues? What you are reading? Places you go to? What we allow and tolerate has an immense effect on our outcomes. Stop listing to people, places, and things that instill fear and worry into you.
You can’t change what people do or say, so it will take effort on your part to ensure you are not impacted by negative messaging. You have to protect what you let enter into your eyes and ears. Adjust what you see and hear to preserve your life.
Stop caring about pleasing others and start to focus on pleasing yourself.
Sometimes we need to focus on self-more in order to be self-less. So shine the spotlight on you and your needs to ensure you have a fulfilling life.
Start by reviewing the people and environments that are not conducive to your ultimate success. You already know what to stay away from, so have the courage today to just walk away. Simply be “no longer available” for those people and situations. Remember the ABB rule – Always Be Busy!
So, walk away from a negative conversation or change the topic, change the channel on an undignified television show, listen to uplifting music, read something edifying. As we heal and love ourselves from the inside, we must avoid allowing toxicity to penetrate our minds.
Do you think that your present circumstances are permanent? Good, you shouldn’t.
If things aren’t adding up in your life, perhaps it’s time to start subtracting!
Complete a people audit today. Make a list of friends, family, and coworkers you associate with and what type of conversations you are having with them. Ask yourself, is it an affirming conversation that reinforces self-love, possibilities, accomplishments, and aspirations? Or is it a pessimistic exchange of complaints, gossip, foul language, and self-hate?
Now do an environmental audit. Make a list of television shows or movies you watch, the material you read, the music you listen to and the place you go to. Are they breathing life or festering death?
Start making the necessary corrections so you can focus your thoughts on loving who you are, knowing who you are and accomplishing your next milestone. It may be a new job, a new business, buying a home, getting a car, or simply more self-care to love yourself more – they all matter and require your focused thinking.
Tapping into love is one thing, and staying there is another. Remember to protect your mind from harmful images, thoughts, and environments so you can keep loving and nurturing your true self.
